Pyrotherm S3 -U

Description/ Through penetration firestop systems

Pyrotherm S3 -U

Fire protection of interior wooden structures.

Pyrotherm S3 -U is a water-based acrylic latex, single component coating designed to protect a wide range of building materials including dimensional lumber, manufactured wood products, trusses, drywall, spray polyurethane foam insulation, HDPE wall panels, concrete, plaster, solid core doors, structural steel, aluminum,  and more.

It is used like a normal paint with a brush, roller or sprayer. It has a milky consistency as it is being applied, but becomes completely clear/transparent when dry so that the surface structure of the wood remains visible. The product may also be used for conduit, decking and cladding.Refer to our architectural specification for more details.

Special Benefits / Performance Features /

Product characteristics

Water-based coating system,Contains no organic solvents plasticizer or formaldehyde

Free from halogens, APEO, borates, fibres and plasticizers

Suitable for impact walls in sports halls

Colour: the coating is transparent when completely dry, clear),Smooth, thin, architectural grade finish.

Good adhesion, smooth finish , Viscoplastic

Strong adhesion on all wooden materials

Intumescent coating,High foaming pressure (up to 1.65 N/mm²), Up to approx. 50-fold expansion rate, Early and very rapid foaming at +150 °C

Light weight,Commonly requires perhaps half the coating thickness and fewer coats to provide protection equal to or better than the competition. That means HUGE savings!

For coloured surface finishing with Pyrotherm, vavailable in colour shades or in individual colour shades on request

Exceptional protection from heat and fire ,Interior or exterior application (use an exterior grade top coat for exterior applications).

Top coat with a wide range of paints including alkyds, acrylics, water-based epoxy or polyurethane.

Designed specifically for sprayer application. No special equipment is required

Fast drying and fast curing times.

Cleans up with soap and water.

The longest shelf life in the industry. Does not need to be periodically reapplied

High resistance to mechanical impact ,Flexible

Moisture and UV resistant ,Weather resistant,Resistant against many chemicals, Sound deadening

Can be used on many different material surfaces (metal, timber, plastic, fabric)

Verifications / certification/ Approved elements

Classification

Pyrotherm S3 –U is tested to a variety of standards including UL, ULc, EN, BS, ASTM, NFPA, UBC, CEN, ISO, and others by the best independent fire testing laboratories available.

Pyrotherm S3 -U uses Underwriters Laboratories (UL), Exova/Warrington, Intertek, Western Fire Center, Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), Guardian Laboratories, SGS/US Testing, Materials Analytical Services, MAGI and more. All labs are certified, accredited and audited.(Contego HS RFB)

Classification acc. to DIN EN 45545-2 2016, fulfills the requirements of the class HL3 for R7

Fire behaviour is classified B-s1, d0 according to DIN EN 13501 (SBI-test) if applied on all sides of the wooden material

B1 according to DIN 4102, Part 1.S4 according to DIN 5510, Part 2

Loss factor d 0.02 – 0.31 according to DIN 53440/ DIN EN ISO 6721-3

Product fulfill the requirements R1 / R7 for hazard levels HL1 – HL3.

2000 hours condensation according DIN EN ISO 6270-1, by the accredited institute iLF Research & Development Company Coatings and Paints GmbH

Sound deadening, determination of the loss factor according to EN ISO 6721-3 by the accredited institute Müller-BBM GmbH

EXOVA Warringtonfire:The results demonstrate that PYRO-SAFE DG-SKN complies with the exterior vertical surface requirements (detailed in table 5 of BS 6853:1999) and the exterior horizontal prone surface requirements

Technical Information/Application Install locations and dimensions

Application

• Recommended conditions for application and during drying time: temperature > + 10 °C, relative humidity < 80 %. Dew point must not be exceeded. The product is best applied when ambient temperature: are between 50°F (10°) and 95F (35°C).

•Once applied and cured, lower or higher temperatures can be tolerated

• Moisture content of wood or wooden materials ≤ 15 %, behind glass-constructions < 10 %

• Check surface for appropriate adhesion: it should be free from dust, dirt, grease, wax, mould, oil, glues and whitewash

• For all type of wood and wooden materials it is required to prepare a suitable sample area before application!

• Stir material thoroughly free of lumps before application

• Application by brush or roller, a short pile lambswool roller is recommended.Airless spraying, airless pumps which generate an operation pressure of 200 – 250 bar by using a nozzle size of 0.012“ – 0.022“ are recommended, flow rate > 4 L/min

• Coverage rate: the required 240~280 g/m² (approx. 170~220 µm wet) can be applied in a single coating operation (spray, brush or roller)

• Cleaning of equipment with warm water

Drying Times

Drying time depends on temperature and relative humidity and the kind of wood. At a temperature of approx. + 25 °C and a relative humidity of approx. 55 % drying times are as follows:

• Per layer approx. 1~2 hours. Dust-dry after approx. 4 hours. Fully dried after approx. 24 hours

•The coating becomes transparent after through-drying.

Top coating is necessary for semi-exposed/ outdoor use

Coating system is sensible to pressure within the first weeks.

DO NOT apply additional coats until you are sure the underlying coats are completely dry. Applying additional coats on top of product that still has moisture may cause the finish to crack and, if enough moisture is trapped under a surface film, blistering and delamination can occur.

System components/Surface Preparation

Surface Maintenance

On structural stee and other metals such as aluminum, copper, brass, or composites, a primer is always required. On combustible substrates such a: dimensional lumber, manufactured wood (Oriented Strand Board, Particle Board, Plywood, etc.), Polyurethane foam, and drywall (GWB) a primer is not required but may be useful if:Dimensional Lumber The wood is very old and/or dry and would likely absorb too much of the Contego coating.

Do not use acid or alkaline cleaner!• Do not use solvent!• Surface cleaning only with a dry and smooth cloth.

Take care for sufficient protection against rot, fungal or insects infestation .improves adhesion of the fire protection coating and the optical result. In case of unknown ingredients of the wooden materials laying out of a trail area is recommended.Take care for an undamaged surface of the coating system
