Pyrotherm S6
Prevents fire from spreading
Description
Pyrotherm S6 is a water-impermeable fire-protection ablative coating which can be used on horizontal or vertical cables and cable conduits indoors as well as outdoors. Pyrotherm S6 reduces the heat exposure through ablation (release of water in a chemical reaction) in the event of fire, thus retarding an ignition and preventing the fire from spreading along the cables.Protects electrical cables against loss of function in the event of fire. When exposed to heat, this fire-protection coating converts into an insulating foam barrier and thus retards the ignition of the cables and the spread of fire along the cable ducts. Propagation along the cable is prevented for at least 180 minutes.
The coating is classified as low-emission, and contains no solvents, fibres, borates, plasticisers, halogens, formaldehydes or alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEO), and is applied like conventional coatings with a brush, roller or an airless paint sprayer. May be used indoors and outdoors (refineries, Industrial facilities etc.)
Special Benefits / Performance Features /
Product characteristics
Contains no solvents, VOC-emissions, APEO, halogens, borates or plasticisers
Water-impermeable in accordance with DIN 1048
Weatherproof / UV resistant in accordance with DIN 53 384
Limited coating thickness (dry layer thickness only 1 mm). No additional measures are required in the area of the cable clamps (vertical routes)
Ageing resistant, mechanically stable, resistant to mechanical stress
Also flexible in higher dry film thicknesses
Coating may be painted and sprayed on
Permanently flexible, does not drip during work
Water-resistant, suitable for indoor and outdoor use
Chemically neutral for the substrate
Does not emit any toxic or corrosive gases in the event of a fire
Does not affect the internal heat behaviour of the cable
Taking care of the cables ability to function
High insulation value and dielectric strength.
Upgrading the cables to meet today’s standards
Minimizing detrimental effects
This again ensures a smooth normal operation for the installation.

Technical Information/Application Install locations and dimensions
Application
• recommended conditions for application: material and ambient temperature > + 5 °C, relative humidity < 80 %. Dew point must not be exceeded. The product is best applied when ambient temperature: are between 50°F (10°) and 95F (35°C).
Pyrotherm S6 has to be stirred thoroughly before application by a slow running stirrer
• application by brush, roller or airless spraying
• recommended nozzle size for airless spraying: 0.022" – 0.028"
• Remove filters from airless pump and spraying gun
• pressure at least 200 bar
• coverage rate: approx. 1.5 mm wet = 1.00 mm dry = approx. 2.0 kg/m 2
• thinning: max. 5 % water
• clean working tools immediately after use with water
Drying Times
Drying time as follows refers to a temperature of + 25 °C and a relative humidity of 55 %:
• dust dry after approx. 2 hours
• touch dry after approx. 5 hours
• fully dried after approx. 24 hours
System components/Surface Preparation
Product processing/Installation
The product can be applied using brushes, rollers or sprays.
After the coating has been applied, the film is formed by physical drying –through evaporation of the receptively contained water.
The dried polymer film, including the non-aqueous substances, remains on the coated component.
The cable or the bunched cables to be coated on all sides. In enclosed and semi-enclosed spaces cable runs to be coated at least 1 metre in every 14 metres for horizontal runs and to entire length of vertical runs.
Details concerning surface pre-treatment, application requirements and drying behaviour can be seen in the current technical information sheet.

For indoor or outdoor application
Pyrotherm S6 is classified for:
Approved for use as an ablative fire protective coating on indoor and outdoor cables.
• horizontal or vertical oriented electrical cables
• supporting structures
• For application on insulating materials and gypsum board.
The fire resistant installation is limited for cables with an overall diameter not exceeding 20 mm and of following types: NYY-J 3x2,5 / 5x1,5 N2XH-J 5x1,5 H07RN-F SG 1,5 MPRXCX 3x2,5 / 3x4 / 3x16
The coating is suitable as fire protection for horizontally and vertically routed cables as well as for upgrading the cable supporting structure.
In conjunction with building material class A mineral fibre material, it is processed to make flexible wall constructions. Bushings for all kinds of lines, combustible and non-combustible pipes as well as refrigeration pipes can be sealed.
In all interiors with high protection requirement, e.g.:
• Garages• Safety areas• Escape and exit routes
• Power stations / nuclear power stations• Hospitals• Schools• Special structures
