Pyrotherm S9

Description/ Through penetration firestop systems

Pyrotherm  S9

High performance intumescent coatings for equipment manufacturing industry(EMI)

Description

Pyrotherm S9 is a water-based innovative intumescent firestop coatings that is based on expandable graphite. It is used as fire-resistant coatings to improve the material performance in a fire and provide increased resistance to fire. Specific material formulation has been optimized for use in equipment manufacturing industry(EMI) rail vehicles/ aircraft.

Pyrotherm S9 starts to develop a protective insulating coat at temperatures of 150 °C. A number of reaction steps proceed during the different stages in a developing fire, so that a coherent protective com- pound is produced. Special substances stabilise and glue thermostable graphite inclusions together to provide effective fire protection. It’s also very easy to apply, promoting greater efficiency during application. The most efficient thin film waterborne intumescent coating for 120 minutes fire protection available for use in equipment manufacturing industry(EMI)

Technical Information/Application Install locations and dimensions

Application

Pyrotherm S9 can be adjusted with water to the preferred application viscosity. Stir material thoroughly before application

Recommended conditions for application and during drying time: temperature > + 5 °C, relative humidity < 85 %. Dew point must not be exceeded

Application by: brush or roller (short pile lambswool rollers are recommended); airless spraying (compression 200 bar, flow-rate 4L/min, (nozzle opening ≥ 0.051” inches = 1.3 mm) or compressed-air spraying (nozzle opening 3.5 - 4 mm).

Check surface for appropriate adhesion: it must be free from dust, dirt, grease, wax or other contamination

Before application on metallic substrates please contact our Technical Support for application instructions

Consumption

Coverage rate: 455 ~ 900 g/m2 , wet coat thickness 500~ 1000µm , dry coat thickness 250 ~ 500 µm .Spray losses are not considered.

The necessary dry film thickness depends on the fire protection requirements and the fire safety properties of the structures that have to be protected.

• Use warm water for cleaning of equipment

Drying time depends on temperature and relative humidity.

At a temperature of approx. + 25 °C a relative humidity of approx. 55 % and a coverage rate of 455 g/m2 drying times are as follows:

• Dust dry after approx. 30 min. Fully dried after approx. 2 hours

At a temperature of approx. + 80 °C a relative humidity of approx. 35 % and a coverage rate of 455 g/m2 drying times are as follows:

• Dust dry after approx. 10 min. Fully dried after approx. 1 hours

System components/Surface Preparation

Surface Preparation / Primer

The compatibility between Pyrotherm S9 and unknown already applied primers need to be checked; any damage ( corrosion, impact e.g.) must be repaired carefully with the particular typeof primer used or other compatible primers

Primed surfaces must be checked for damages and dry film thickness if they have been exposed to the weather for longer.

Pyrotherm S9 is preferably applied with spraying gun and offer very high resistance to mechanical impact after drying. The surface has a rough structure due to the particle sizes of the expandable graphite.

The intumescent coatings are available in colours anthracite, grey, black or red. Moreover it is possible to cover them additionally with approved PU paint in various colours.

Areas of Application/ Building materials/ component

Pyrotherm S9 can be used in a wide range of indoors and outdoors

Use in various applications in the rail vehicles and aircraft .For cargo compartment floors, ceiling ducts, air inlet and outlet openings and seating elements.

Applications on different material surfaces, for aluminium and sheet metal constructions, plastics and insulating materials

Metallic and non-metallic substrates. Depending on the substrate, intermediate coats may have to be provided to improve the corrosion resistance and/or bonding properties.

The flexible and elastic coatings offer an excellent adhesion on timber, metal, plastic and fabric-based materials.

Usable in a temperature range from - 20 °C to + 80 °C

The aim always is to provide burnthrough protection and simultaneously reducing weight. Structural elements can, for instance, be lighter and with a fi ligree design if fi re protection requirements necessitate higher material thickness.
